And even with the reasonable stuff the demoncrats put thru does not change what they refuse to do to make this country a nicer place. But most of that is caused by the delusional rather st00pid voters who think that working hard and honest will make them rich & powerful, meanwhile the 1%ers prove they are 100% wrong! Is it worth it to use up a ten times more educational resources into making one person an engineer than it would be for another person, even if the first could, with the extra resources, be a good engineer?

In any event, deBoer goes through a lot of science (which I didn't study carefully); if Robinson wanted to make the case that we can't measure potential, then he would have to hit the science.

[A]re we sure that we're training as many engineers as we possibly can?

Well, I don't know that we want to train as many as we can; we should be training as many as we want, given that more engineers means fewer doctors, teachers, etc.

deBoer's point resonates with me precisely because I'm an economist. Regardless of other problems (which are admittedly severe), I think it's important to look at efficiency and opportunity cost, and differences in ability have an effect.

Perhaps Robinson is just presenting a false controversy in order to get a few more clicks?

I'm quite hesitant to impute such base and trivial motives to him. I think the left is just as capable to deny science on sincerely held moral grounds.Larry Hamelinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08788697573946266404noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28755195.post-17288438382077220282020-10-11T20:09:08.609-06:002020-10-11T20:09:08.609-06:00I wonder what your thoughts are on Robinson's ...I wonder what your thoughts are on Robinson's other point in his piece, namely that we don't really know a person's potential without bending over backwards in order to help them achieve it. It sounds a bit like just the sort of whining that we on "the left" are long accused for, and yet I must say that this point resonates with my experience.

Sure, differences in academic achievement as measured by current practice displays a strong genetic correlation, but are we sure that we're training as many engineers as we possibly can? It just seems like a much better approach to education in general than the current regime.

I don't really see how this point is at odds with deBoer's point about forgoing an "equality of outcome" model either. I've been thinking a lot about how infantile are so many adults that I know (coworkers, strangers, etc.). this externalization of authority is huge, but also religious sexual repression is a major factor in preventing people from progressing naturally and holistically through the critical milestones of becoming an adult. (pop culture with its perverse "sexualization" of children in media is a masked reactive version of this). the beginning of mind control started with this whole religious sexual shame/original sin BS. and in turn, we have adults with addictive, vindictive, subservient or domineering personality (disorders)running around in their Disney overalls acting like baboons. I'd say our wars of conquest are waged and fought by infantile-minded adults, and this is the most tragic consequence along with child abuse/clergy abuseabcranehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15366964308255450820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28755195.post-35639470282052592922019-07-28T14:53:37.627-06:002019-07-28T14:53:37.627-06:00This comment has been removed by the author.abcranehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15366964308255450820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28755195.post-29857997224218686052019-06-26T06:43:50.298-06:002019-06-26T06:43:50.298-06:00Thanks!
