For the record: I support Amanda. I think it's categorically unwise in the first place for any politician to hire someone with brains and principles, not to mention razor-sharp satiric wit. And I don't think John Edwards would recognize a spine if he had one running up his back.
Still, teh funnay is teh funnay. If we can't laugh at ourselves, we can always laugh at other peop... wait, that doesn't quite work.

Please pick a handle or moniker for your comment. It's much easier to address someone by a name or pseudonym than simply "hey you". I have the option of requiring a "hard" identity, but I don't want to turn that on... yet.

ReplyDeleteWhat appeals to Lefties and Righties as 'funny' is an interesting question. There's a guy called Iowahawk, who I think is pretty good (usually, not always). He wrote a pretty funny Amanda post, I thought. Sure enough, I found a Leftie blog slagging him as "not at all funny."
TBogg leaves me cold. As does General JC Christian. But, as someone who goes by "Commissar," who am I to say??
So, there's an issue of shared values or common language, or something, that drives what we genuinely find funny. I do NOT think that all the readers involved (myself included) are just sour partisans who want to diss the other side's stuff. We (all) just dont find it funny.
As indicated by the length of this comment, I think it's an interesting question. :)

As regards to comedy, I guess it's much like obscenity: I can't define it, but I know it when I see it.
