The Stupid! It Burns! (yet another evolutionary edition)

the stupid! it burns! Atheist Saints
It occurs to me that atheists don't have [saints]. That is people who embrace atheism fully. People who take the idea that the material world is all their is and push it as far as it can be pushed. Morality, love, truth, purpose, virtue, miracles, everything is just something our minds made up to give us survival advantages. They may continue to give us survival advantages or not but they are not to be taken seriously as pointing to some greater reality or any reality at all.
As usual, the stupid gets even worse. How can someone even have a conversation with these kind of people?

  1. Thanks for the link. Feel free to at least try and understand the post and say why you disagree. Just calling something stupid is hardly going to get discussion going. Explaining why something is stupid has the chance of shining some light. You either teach the other person something or they give a reply that might make you think.

  2. I understood your post.

Heinlein said, "Never try to teach a pig how to fly. It wastes your time and annoys the pig."

In order to have a discussion, you have to be speaking with someone with minimal intellectual competence and the intention of trying to understand a subject. You displayed neither quality.

Why should I waste my time in discussion with someone who either lacks the basic mental competence to understand the subject at even a superficial level, and who lacks the inability or unwillingness to even begin to engage with the subject with a minimal level of intellectual honesty?

You don't want to learn; why should I try to teach you.

All I can do is point to your egregious errors, call you stupid, and record another data point showing the pervasive and repeated inability of Christians to understand and honestly discuss any subject that undermines your ludicrous dogma.

  3. I actually do want to learn. You seem very confident in yourself. But why should I believe it is because you know something and not because you simply have a personality flaw? All I have seen you do is string together insults. I have not seen you display any insight into atheism or Christianity. So you think you are smart and you don't have a very gracious way of letting people know that. Got that. You don't need to make that point again.

  4. I actually do want to learn. Do you now? OK, prove it. Tell me the typical atheist definitions of atheism, naturalism, positivism and materialism. Quote and cite qualified 20th or 21st century sources. Get a C or above (on a typical community college scale, which is not a high bar), and I'll discuss the issue with you.

  5. Also, Randy, it seems at least disingenuous to chide me for not wanting to have a conversation and at the same time refusing to publish my comment on your blog.

It is, of course, your own blog, and you may publish what you please. I'm just sayin'

  6. I could not find any comment that did not get published. I don't moderate comments there. Just a few rules to screen out the spam. Not sure where your comment went but it is not in my spam filter.

  7. My mistake. I was looking at the wrong thread. I apologize.

Please pick a handle or moniker for your comment. It's much easier to address someone by a name or pseudonym than simply "hey you". I have the option of requiring a "hard" identity, but I don't want to turn that on... yet.

With few exceptions, I will not respond or reply to anonymous comments, and I may delete them. I keep a copy of all comments; if you want the text of your comment to repost with something vaguely resembling an identity, email me.

No spam, pr0n, commercial advertising, insanity, lies, repetition or off-topic comments. Creationists, Global Warming deniers, anti-vaxers, Randians, and Libertarians are automatically presumed to be idiots; Christians and Muslims might get the benefit of the doubt, if I'm in a good mood.

See the Debate Flowchart for some basic rules.

Sourced factual corrections are always published and acknowledged.

I will respond or not respond to comments as the mood takes me. See my latest comment policy for details. I am not a pseudonomous-American: my real name is Larry.

Comments may be moderated from time to time. When I do moderate comments, anonymous comments are far more likely to be rejected.

I've already answered some typical comments.

I have jqMath enabled for the blog. If you have a dollar sign (\$) in your comment, put a \\ in front of it: \\\$, unless you want to include a formula in your comment.
