What have the liberals ever done for us?

"Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote. Liberals created Social Security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation. Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act. Liberals created Medicare. Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act. What did Conservatives do? They opposed them on every one of those things...every one! So when you try to hurl that label at my feet, 'Liberal,' as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won't work, Senator, because I will pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge of honor."

  1. This doesn't work as a political strategy because 1/3rd of Americans don't regard and of these ideas as a good thing. This third makes up around half of all voters.

The rest of the public would have voted D anyway or doesn't vote, period.

    Happily, I'm not a politician.

The ideas in the quote are just what the liberal have done for us lately. Liberals are responsible for all the components of modern Western civilization: democracy, freedom of speech, etc., and most especially the fundamental sovereignty of the people vs. the divine right of kings.

Unfortunately, it's probably true that a third of Americans don't have much esteem for even these ideas.

Please pick a handle or moniker for your comment. It's much easier to address someone by a name or pseudonym than simply "hey you". I have the option of requiring a "hard" identity, but I don't want to turn that on... yet.

With few exceptions, I will not respond or reply to anonymous comments, and I may delete them. I keep a copy of all comments; if you want the text of your comment to repost with something vaguely resembling an identity, email me.

No spam, pr0n, commercial advertising, insanity, lies, repetition or off-topic comments. Creationists, Global Warming deniers, anti-vaxers, Randians, and Libertarians are automatically presumed to be idiots; Christians and Muslims might get the benefit of the doubt, if I'm in a good mood.

I will respond or not respond to comments as the mood takes me. See my latest comment policy for details. I am not a pseudonomous-American: my real name is Larry.

I've already answered some typical comments.
