An atheist's manifesto

I'm an atheist because I'd rather believe and live the truth, however uncomfortable, than believe and live a fantasy, however comforting and self-aggrandizing. I value and admire intelligence, and even the smartest person turns into a complete fucking idiot when he starts talking about his religion.

I'm an atheist because I reject slave morality in favor of the morality of freedom. My conscience demands I stand in opposition to any human being whose sole claim to authority and power is the asserted favor of a sadistic, psychopathic and entirely imaginary deity. Even if I'm wrong, and the despotic, sadistic psychopath depicted in the Christian Bible or the Koran were to actually exist, my conscience equally demands I stand in opposition to such an evil being. Better to rule in hell than serve in heaven.

Let me be blunt: if you are a Christian or a Muslim, I hold you in utter and complete contempt. You are nothing but a slave to fear, however you obfuscate and bullshit. You are destroying not only your own life (which is your own to use or waste as you please), but the lives of millions, both the heretics you slaughter (or stand idly by while your brethren slaughter) and the brainwashed masses who never even get a chance to learn to think and feel as free people. There's no more room to be a "moderate" Christian or a moderate Muslim than there is to be a moderate Nazi: you either stand in total and complete opposition or you are complicit. I am an atheist because I am not complicit.

I'm an atheist because I fully and wholeheartedly endorse the slogan that humanity will not be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.

The rest, as they say, is commentary.

    Oh, well. Peace.

Like I said, even the smartest person turns into a complete fucking idiot when he starts talking about his religion. When someone who's already a fucking idiot starts talking about religion, I really wonder how they can manage to not shit in public.

  4. I wholeheartedly concur with you. When religious people open their mouth and spew out such grandiose delusional garbage, it's hard to not loose your lunch.

  5. A-fucking-Men.

The truth matters. I hope my children never become brainwashed by religion.

  6. Your opening line is like one of my favorites, by Richard Feynman, which was something like "I'd rather live with doubt than to believe something that wasn't true."

Whereas I'd personally back off some from the "complete contempt," I've come a long way from tolerance toward where you are, as we see religionists trying -- and often succeeding -- to insert belief everywhere. When they threaten to dumb us down to the point of flaccidity they endanger us all. So we only disagree to the extent that I have some sympathy for people who need religion to get by, and who manage to keep it to themselves.

  7. I understand your position, Sid. To a certain extent, there are those who never had a chance to learn to think. Still and all, my most bitter contempt does not materially harm anyone. My tolerance will definitely not move anyone away from a slave mentality and slave morality; my contempt, ridicule and disdain at least has a chance of doing so.

Plus, I'm just fucking sick of slave morality. I've spent ten years trying (with occasional success) to be tolerant and moderate, and I just can't manage it anymore.

  8. I think that complete and utter contempt for any general subset of people is a poor attitude. I don't think it's likely to promote discussion, or understanding between you and a bunch of folks who discover that they're contemptible in your opinion.

Even if some religious types hold committed, eloquent and opinionated atheists in contempt, I don't think that's a reason to copy them.

Even if we do come across brainwashed, delusional religious folks, bringing them gently out of their cult and back to something more like common sense is a better goal (I feel) than yelling across no-mans-land from our respective trenches.

Please don't make fucktarded statements like this. I never offered this as a reason, because it's as stupid as you are.

If you enjoy the taste of Christian cock, stuff all of it you want in your mouth. I'm not having it.

Please pick a handle or moniker for your comment. It's much easier to address someone by a name or pseudonym than simply "hey you". I have the option of requiring a "hard" identity, but I don't want to turn that on... yet.

With few exceptions, I will not respond or reply to anonymous comments, and I may delete them. I keep a copy of all comments; if you want the text of your comment to repost with something vaguely resembling an identity, email me.

No spam, pr0n, commercial advertising, insanity, lies, repetition or off-topic comments. Creationists, Global Warming deniers, anti-vaxers, Randians, and Libertarians are automatically presumed to be idiots; Christians and Muslims might get the benefit of the doubt, if I'm in a good mood.

I will respond or not respond to comments as the mood takes me. See my latest comment policy for details. I am not a pseudonomous-American: my real name is Larry.
