Nope, still no spine

The Democratic party is still shopping for a spine.

Again, I will apply true rocket science to the issue.

Everybody knows who fired the U.S. Attorneys: Rove and Bush. Everybody knows why they were fired: Because they wouldn't interfere in elections or would prosecute Republicans. Everybody knows that the U.S. Attorneys who weren't fired did interfere with elections and/or wouldn't prosecute Republicans. This is common knowledge.

The only thing left to do is either get these guys on C-Span, under oath, or allow Bush to provoke a Constitutional crisis by refusing to allow them to testify. Either way the point is to build a case for impeachment.

  1. The scary thing is, with respect to Rove, Congress actually lacks the ability to compel his testimony without challenging the executive privilege in court. It's a fight they should pick. Like Sen. Chuck Hagel (R!) said, "We had kings once; it didn't work out."

No such privilege extends to Gonzales. Also, normally presidents have waived such privilege. But then, most presidents haven't been blatant authoritarians.

My favorite revelation came out today: Carol Lam, the attorney who was conveniently fired right after widening the scope of a corruption investigation to include Randy Cunningham, was supposedly fired for failure to adequately enforce immigration law (according to Kyle Sampson yesterday). Today, it was revealed that she was praised by the chief of the U.S. Border Patrol for a 30% increase in immigration violation prosecutions and was ranked one of the top three U.S. Attorneys on immigration matters.

Heh. Pick the fight, Democrats. You'll win.

  2. Well, I certainly hope the Democratic party will be able to explain this puzzling, mysterious behavior on the basis of closed-door testimony.

I for one will feel ever so relieved when they emerge and tell me that it's all worked out and everything will be smooth sailing from here on in.

  3. I'd give real money if the Dems as a whole would just grow a spine and not bow down to the GOP-created narratives.

Why can't more be like Fiengold?

  4. Well, on April 28th, there will be impeachment protests in towns and cities all over the country. And everywhere people will be using signs, their bodies, chalk, or anything else they can think of to spell out IMPEACH! Several cities have actions planned already, but we invite everybody to start thinking about the most creative, spectacular, beautiful, and clever ways they can come up with to spell it out. This is a spin-off of the BeachImpeach project on the shores of San Francisco where over 1,100 people spelled out "Impeach!" Find out what is going on in your town, or start your own project. Be a part of history and this media grabbing call to defend our Constitution through impeachment.

  5. I would literally give up a body part to see Bush impeached... Well, probably not but I would consider donating some blood.

Seriously, Bush will not be impeached as long as status quo Democrats are in control of Congress. It's not in their political interest to do so. Republicans actually have more of a political interest to see Bush impeached if they want any chance of winning the Whitehouse in 2008.

I just wonder if there's such a thing as retroactive impeachment?
